AREAS OF USAGE Formic acid usage areas are briefly as follows; in the textile industry, leather industry, beekeeping industry, varroa control, medicine, chemical industry, etc. used in many industries. Formic acid is most commonly used as a preservative and antibacterial additive in animal feeds. It is applied to improve lactic acid fermentation and suppress butyric acid formation in silos. It also accelerates fermentation at very low temperatures and reduces the loss of nutritional value. It is used as a fabric dyeing and finishing agent in the textile industry due to its acidic property. It is also a tanning agent in leather production and a coagulant in rubber production. Formic Acid can also be used instead of mineral acids in various cleaning chemicals such as lime remover and toilet bowl cleaner. It is used in beekeeping to combat Varroa and leafhopper aphids (Acarapis woodi), the vapor of the formic acid solution is lethal for these parasites.
