It is an organic compound. It polymerizes easily at its melting point and when exposed to UV rays. It is insoluble in heptane and benzene. It is soluble in water, ethanol, methanol, dimethyl ether and acetone. It is odorless, crystalline and colorless. It is used as a shrink-resistant material and water repellent in textiles.
