Formic acid, HCOOH, is a one-carbon carboxylic acid. Also known as methanoic acid. Formic acid is the simplest carboxylic acid because it does not contain an alkyl group attached to the carbonyl carbon. It has both aldehyde and carboxylic acid properties.
